Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'verdana' , sans-serif;\">As I mentioned yesterday, tech support scams are rampant. But you need to be very aware, they are also changing tactics almost on a daily basis. While the latest seem to be a result of either a hijacked browser or an infected website, the earlier version that was so\u00a0prominent\u00a0(and still in use, just a little less so), was to actually call you on your phone. The perpetrator of this scam would say that they are a representative of Microsoft (or some other legitimate company) and inform you that their systems are reporting that you have a virus and that you need to allow them to connect to your computer to fix the issue.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_68\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-68\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-68 \" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.1.115\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/currupted-typo-300x152.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"152\" srcset=\"https:\/\/csanow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/currupted-typo-300x152.png 300w, https:\/\/csanow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/currupted-typo-230x117.png 230w, https:\/\/csanow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/currupted-typo-350x178.png 350w, https:\/\/csanow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/currupted-typo-480x244.png 480w, https:\/\/csanow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/currupted-typo.png 668w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-68\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot example of a supposedly infected system<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'verdana' , sans-serif;\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'verdana' , sans-serif;\">Once connected, as mentioned in my previous post, they would begin to run a few well\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'verdana' , sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'verdana' , sans-serif;\">designed scripts to bait you into believing that you have some terrible infection and that they can fix it for you for a price, which usually ranges between $299 and $499.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'verdana' , sans-serif;\">If you receive a phone call like this, PLEASE just hang up on them or tell them you KNOW this is a scam and then hang up on them. Then follow the instructions I provided in my previous post on what programs to run to ensure you actually\u00a0don&#8217;t\u00a0have any infections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'verdana' , sans-serif;\">The next round of tech support scams will likely be a hybrid of one of the two examples I&#8217;ve provided you with AND an encryption virus. We&#8217;ll discuss this more in a future post.
